Spring Update

Despite a cool and snowy start to spring, it turned out that we had a fantastic planting season and crops are off to a great start. First, we found a small window on April 13th to try planting some early beans. The forecast looked cold and we wouldn’t have dreamt of planting corn but with beans’ tolerance to chilling and the yield advantage of early planted beans, we planted a field. Despite enduring some snow and temps in the 20’s, they came through just fine and are off to a good start. Corn planting started off a week and a half later on the 23rd. Soil conditions were fit, albeit a bit cool, but we had a warming and dry forecast. We planted corn that week and got back on beans at the end of the week. We wrapped up beans on May 2nd and got a small shower that night. It was a busy week and a half of continuous planting and spraying but emergence and stands look good across the board. During that time, crews came to build a lean-to addition onto our machine shed. The addition depth in the shop and cold storage will bring much needed relief of cramped quarters for machinery, It will allow us to leave machines and semi’s hooked up when parked in the shed or being worked on in the shop. The original building was built long before we ever imagined having a 24 row planter! As you can see in the pictures, planting season was a hit with inquisitive young riders!
