Winter Activities

Just a quick update here with what has been going on this winter on the farm! We have been making some updates to the planter again this year. We put on a liquid insecticide system to apply generic insecticide and reduce the cost of our corn seed. Due to low rootworm pressure recently, the insecticide should provide sufficient protection in place of the the rootworm resistant traits in some of our corn varieties. We also added a system to hydraulically distribute the added weight of the centralized liquid tank and seed tanks across the whole frame width of the planter. With the reliability of GPS systems we now use, this also allowed us to remove the markers, which were not really providing more than added weigh to the wings. We also have been getting in seed and ordering fertilizer and pesticides for the spring. The 30′ row cultivator pictured was an auction find that will help with the weed-control “backup-plan” in soybeans, especially the few fields of nonGMO beans we are again growing. But the most exciting happening is the addition of Bria LeAnne to our family! It has been an exciting month, and her brothers and sister are quite fond of her as you can see!
