Summer update

Just a quick update on what has been happening so far this summer. Things dried out nicely after my last post and we were able to get the corn sprayed and the last pass of nitrogen applied with Y-Drops. We missed a few forecasted rains and things started to look pretty parched. Then we quickly made up for it with a large rain event that dropped 3-4.5″. Although this caused a few ponds to drown out again, it was much needed for the crop and things are looking quite well. We then finished up spraying bean herbicide. This year we have been very pleased with the weed control we are seeing. Using the new dicamba-tolerant soybean herbicide program, we have been able to get much better control of resistant weeds in challenging areas and fields than we have in past years. However, the row-cultivator and some bean walking had to be brought back into play in our nonGMO beans to try to clean them up. Starting this week, we are planning spray the beans to control the Japanese beetles that are prevalent this year and apply a fungicide to improve plant health. Below are pictures of spraying and a drone video of Y-dropping nitrogen on the corn.
