The rain certainly did not let up immediately after my last blogpost! Finishing up the spraying and nitrogen application was a challenge but we were able to get it all done in bits and pieces. And we learned quite a bit along the way!
We found out that we could successfully apply nitrogen with the Y-Drop system in 8.5′ corn. We found out that the firmer planter tracks would help hold up the sprayer much better than expected on wet ground. We found out that properly placed nitrogen can make a noticeable difference in yellow corn in just a couple of days. We found out that you can drive to Canada and back in one night when it means having the parts needed to be able run the sprayer through corn that is ready to tassel. We found out how well an all-wheel-drive sprayer can pull through a muddy spot. We found out how big weeds we can and cannot kill with good weed-growing conditions in non-GMO beans. We found out how valuable drainage tile is on a year like this! We found out where more tile is needed. We found out how nice it is that planes can apply fungicide to corn regardless of how muddy it is. We found out how to apply fungicide under the canopy of the beans to better protect against diseases like white mold using 360 Undercovers.
I am looking forward to see what we will find out this harvest season!
