Things have been quite busy since I last wrote! Harvest wrapped up on October 27th after being slowed down some by a rainy spell and some muddy fields. We utilized the rest of the good weather to finish fall tillage, equipment cleanup, and ammonia application. We were able get it all done just before the early hard freeze in November put an end to field work. On our last day of fall tillage, we were able to demo Deere’s new ripper alongside our Case 870. The pictures show us running the machines side-by-side. After field work was wrapped up and machinery tucked away, we were busy making decisions on seed for next year. Also since harvest, Ben has started hauling grain out of the local elevators and using the slow days to get the truck shined up and do maintenance. The last picture shows Dad’s new “toy” and project. The old Deere A should be fun addition to the farm for years to come!
Also, we are excited to become a dealer for 360 Yield Center and to be using their solutions and tools to enhance our nitrogen program in the coming year. We hope to utilize new soil nitrate testing capability, variable rate prescription software, and a sprayer attachment to widen our application window for late season nitrogen in order to make better use of nitrogen applied, both for economic and environmental reasons. More on this later!
