Planting Begins!

The weather finally turned around and offered us some good opportunities to get some work done in the past 3 weeks.  We were able to get our pre-plant corn spraying done between the 11th and 18th of April. Then, on Saturday the 19th, we got the planter tuned in and planted the home farm. Last week we were able to run at an easy pace, getting a good share of our corn in, but not hurrying due to the cooler temps and rain that were predicted for this week.  Everything went smoothly last week, with nice, dry conditions.  Things started to get a little on the dry/dusty/cloddy side later in the week, so the 1-1.5″ of rain that we received Sunday and Monday was welcomed! The cool didn’t fully set in until Tuesday and the soil temps last week were good, so we feel like the corn should be in good shape to get through these few days of cold. When things dry off next week (hopefully!) we will finish corn and plan to go right into spraying and planting beans.
