It has been quite the winter here, as in much of the midwest! Snow, cold, and some flooding rains mixed right in! The picture below is of the overflowing creek at the bottom of our lane with “icebergs” and piles of snow scattered throughout.
We have not had any trouble keeping busy inside, however. Winter meetings, office work, and some shop projects have filled our days. The pictures below show our updated sprayer nurse trailer. We revamped our old setup on a new-to-us heavier-duty flatbed trailer that will better handle hauling the nitrogen fertilizer we are applying. We plan to apply nitrogen as a carrier for our pre-plant corn herbicide as well as continue to side-dress our corn-on-corn fields. Continuing to split up our nitrogen applications should increase the efficiency and availability of the nitrogen as well as be more environmentally sound as it reduces the chances of nitrogen loss.
Also pictured is the planter and planter tractor in the shop. We are combing through the machines, ensuring that they are ready for spring and performing regular maintenance.
Finally, we are excited to have welcomed Braxton Lee Leman on January 31. We are thankful he is doing well, and we (Travis & Morgan) are enjoying settling in as a family of four or grandparents (Wayne & Julie) times 3!
One Response and Counting...
Sounds like lots of progress through all the snow! I like reading the blog posts. I hope you guys have a great planting season- once the ground thaws in July! 🙂
